SAM-Dimension has developed a high-speed, drone-based mapping system, using millimeter-resolution cameras and real-time edge AI to generate precision weed maps for targeted herbicide application. The system surveys fields at over 60 hectares per hour, detects individual weeds from the cotyledon stage onward, and delivers a terminal-compatible Spot-Spray Map within 24 hours. Early customers report herbicide savings of up to 75% and the system has received multiple awards.
Herbicide overuse is one of the leading drivers of soil degradation, water pollution, and biodiversity loss in European agriculture. However, most precision farming solutions lack the resolution and throughput to make spot-spray economically viable at scale. SAM-Dimension's SAM-CAM AI is technically superior to satellite and standard drone alternatives in both resolution and speed, and the doctoral-level founding team brings deep domain expertise that is hard to replicate. Compatibility with existing ISOBUS machinery lowers adoption barriers dramatically, and documented real-world savings on herbicides make the ROI for farmers immediately tangible.
Robin: SAM-DIMENSION maps weeds with drones and AI, enabling farmers to reduce herbicides by up to 90% while saving costs and protecting biodiversity.
Robin: We make food production more sustainable by cutting chemical use and thereby lowering pesticide costs for farmers, and improving biodiversity on fields.
Robin: Alex and I founded SAM-DIMENSION during our PhD at the University of Hohenheim, where we both worked in research with drones, sensors and AI-Algorithms for precision farming applications – turned research into practice.
Robin: Turning scientific prototypes into robust deep tech that works under open field conditions – while proving that drones can outperform classic equipment in cost, speed, and accuracy – has been our biggest challenge. Now that our system works and others fail, experts and the market are turning in our favor. We achieved this by staying resilient, not being distracted by opinions, and closely cooperating with the people who believed in our path – including the support from PiC.
Robin: The founder rollercoaster is real – especially when you're disrupting a billion-dollar market with a completely new approach in technology and business. For us, the key has been a stable social network, honesty within the team and towards our customers, strong resilience, and the support of PiC mentors and coaches.
Robin: PiC provides an incredible network of mentors, coaches, and founder exchange for every startup stage and age. Most importantly, it's down-to-earth and direct – no shiny senior advisors wasting time with abstract mentoring, but real exchange at eye level with genuine problem-solving interest.
Robin: PiC combines deep expertise with incredible executive power. This creates that little extra which, in many situations, gives us the unfair advantage that truly makes the difference.
