Metergrid is an all-in-one platform that enables owners of multifamily buildings to install rooftop solar PV and sell the generated electricity directly to their tenants ("Mieterstrom"). The platform covers the entire value chain – from economic feasibility analysis and PV installation coordination to legally compliant billing software, tenant management, and metering technology – turning a previously complex regulatory and administrative process into a straightforward offering.
Germany has millions of multifamily buildings with untapped rooftop solar potential, and solar power for tenants has historically been held back not by economics but by regulatory and administrative complexity. Metergrid's platform creates a genuine three-sided win: better returns for landlords, lower electricity costs for tenants, and a meaningful contribution to the energy transition. That is why we belong to the first seed investors of metergrid. Their strong customer validation and a recent €10M Series A confirm that the market is responding to their approach.
Julian: metergrid empowers landlords to sell rooftop solar power directly to their tenants.
Julian: We provide an all-in-one SaaS platform combined with a full project management service that delivers green energy, attractive returns (8–15 %), and a seamless tenant electricity experience.
Julian: We want tenant electricity to become the norm, providing cost-effective, locally generated renewable energy to millions, while supporting the decentralization of energy and accelerating the transition.
Julian: The idea originated during my university days, when I realized how difficult it was for landlords to sell self-generated solar electricity to tenants, so we built metergrid to simplify that entire process.
Julian: Convincing stakeholders that tenant electricity is both profitable and scalable was tough, so we proved our concept with 1.500 of real projects, secured €2.7 million in seed funding, and extended it by €3.5 million, accelerating growth.
Julian: One of the biggest challenges has been maintaining resilience while navigating the uncertainties and intensity of building a fast-growing company. I've tackled this by developing routines that help me stay focused under pressure, relying on a strong team culture, and viewing every setback as an opportunity to adapt and grow.
Julian: PiC offers us access to a vibrant founder-and-investor network that amplifies our ability to scale fast, test new innovations, and build partnerships in the energy transition ecosystem.
Julian: I particularly appreciate the collaborative, open-minded spirit, being part of a community committed to driving the energy transition together makes all the difference.
